Enchantment and Disenchantment… on the 4th September 2015 at 22.00 in the Atrium of the Palazzo Comunale Osimo Accademia d’Arte Lirica’s soloists accompanied by Alessandro Benigni will make their contribution to this series of manifestations with music by Puccini, Strauss, Léhar, Ranzato, De Curtis and Weill, Puccini’s Magda, who dreams of swapping her bourgeois life for romance, Liù who will sacrifice herself for her beloved Calaf, and Frank the tormented, all follow illusions which fast disappear. In the golden world of Operetta, joie de vivre resounds as Adèle the maid and the Merry widow dance on the edge of the volcano. The great war will destroy empires, wither illusions and bring disenchantment. But the melancholy of a season long gone remains in the songs: for the very italian De Curtis and the refugee german composer Kurt Weill the melodies are tinged with nostalgia for the enchantment that was.
