Student of Rodolfo Celletti, in 1980 he won the singing contest “Enrico Caruso”, which led him to perform at Milan’s Teatro alla Scala in Donizetti’s Rita, continuing over the years with the debuts of the following works: Mavra, Renard, the Flood (I.Stravinskij), Idomeneo (Mozart), I Pagliacci (Leoncavallo), La Sonnambula (Bellini), Alceste (Gluck), L’occasione fa il ladro and Le Comte Ory (Rossini) and L’Incoronazione di Poppea (Monteverdi). He has sung at the Metropolitan in New York and the Opera in San Francisco, In Europe he has sung in Lisbon, Madrid, Paris, Munich, Berlin, Vienna, Brussels, Amsterdam, London, Zurich, Athens. In Japan: Tokyo, Nagoya, Osaka, Kyoto, Sendai, Kagoshima. China: Macao, in Argentina to Teatro Colon in Buenos Aires. His wide repertoire includes over one hundred roles from different eras: from Recitar cantando to Belcanto, from romantic to modern. He has performed works by Claudio Monteverdi, Antonio Vivaldi (Orlando Furioso), Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (Cosi fan tutte), Vincenzo Bellini (I Puritani and La Sonnambula), Gaetano Donizetti (La fille du régiment), Giovanni Pacini (The last day of Pompeii), Richard Strauss and Nino Rota. He is a Rossini specialist: in addition to Barbiere, he has sung La Scala di Seta, L’Italiana in Algeri, La gazza ladra, La Cenerentola, Il Viaggio a Reims and many other works. His exceptional extension, which allows him to reach a high F in full voice, allowed him to take on roles in works that were pure contraltini tenors, as Giovanni Battista Rubini and Giovanni David: among others Zelmira, Ricciardo and Zoraida by Rossini, the aforementioned Puritani, L’ultimo giorno di Pompei (Pacini) up to Richard Strauss and Igor Stravinsky. He has a vast discography, which includes titles by Rossini, Donizetti, Bellini, Monteverdi and an early music recital titled My sweet sighs. His latest recording is dedicated to Francesco Paolo Tosti on French texts of Victor Hugo, Alfred de Musset, Paul Bourget, Théophile Gautier etc … He has dedicated himself to teaching and holding Master Classes in bel canto vocal technique and interpretation in Germany, Japan and Italy, in particular, at the Academy of Lyric Art in Osimo where he has been a guest teacher for over a decade.
