Matteo Mazzoni

Born in Jesi, after classical studies he devoted himself to study film, photography and visual arts. Since 1999 he has been an assistant director and stage director at major opera institutions as the Sferisterio of Macerata, the Teatro Pergolesi in Jesi, Teatro delle Muse in Ancona, Teatro Verdi in Trieste, Teatro San Carlo in Naples, Teatro La Fenice in Venice, Teatro Verdi in Salerno, Teatro Verdi in Sassari, Greek Politeama of Lecce, Opera Festival of Martina Franca, the International Festival WA Mozart in Rovereto with directors as Giancarlo Cobelli, Philippe Arlaud, Pier Luigi Pizzi, Ivan Stefanutti, Massimo Gasparon, Antonio Latella, Massimo Ranieri, Italo Nunziata, Damiano Michieletto, Francesco Micheli, Giancarlo del Monaco.
In 2005 he was office director of the Fondazione Pergolesi Spontini. Also in 2005 he followed the shooting of Tancredi, directed by Gasparon, in the Theatre of Oviedo in Spain, and at the Toulon Opera House in France. In 2006 he directed the reproduction of Cavalleria Rusticana and Gianni Schicchi in the Opera National Theatre of Belgrade, production of Stefanutti. He directed Elisir d’amore at the Theatre of Corridonia (MC) for the Singing Academy of Katia Ricciarelli and La Traviata at the Archaeological Park of Metaponto.  
In 2007 he directed the Carmina Burana for the inauguration of the Ente season Concerts of Pesaro; in the same year was assistant director at the Sferisterio of Macerata Norma (production of Gasparon), and he directed the concert in honor of Beniamino Gigli with Renato Bruson at the Teatro Persiani of Recanati.
In 2008 he was assistant director for the resumption of Aida and Turandot Sferisterio; he was assistant director Tosca in Macerata and directed Elisir d’amore at the International Festival of Benicàssim, Valencia. In Jesi he directed the Night of wonders, the final event of the VIII Festival Pergolesi Spontini.
In 2009 he was office director at the Teatro San Carlo in Naples and for the summer season of the Arena Flegrea; he look care of the revival of “Barbiere di Siviglia” production of Damiano Michieletto, in Jesi at Teatro Pergolesi. It’s lights designer for the zarzuela opera “Marina” in Malaga in Spain.
In 2010 he was responsible for sets and costumes of “Gianni Schicchi” at the National Theatre in Sarajevo. He directed the event organized by “Fondazione Pergolesi Spontini” for three hundred years since the birth of Pergolesi.
In 2011 he was assistant director of the staging of “Rigoletto”, production of Gasparon, at the “Sferisterio” of Macerata, the Teatro Sociale di Como and the Teatro Pergolesi in Jesi. He was general director of the celebrations of the 150th anniversary of the unification of Italy organized by the Pergolesi Spontini Foundation, at the Teatro Pergolesi in Jesi, and at The Teatro delle Muse in Ancona.
In 2012 he was directing the production of “The Barber of Seville”, at the ‘Romanian National Opera of Iasi, and “The Magic Flute” at Accademia Internazionale d ‘Arte Lirica in Osimo, he still collaborates as a teacher of scenic art for young singers. Participated as an assistant director staging of “Othello” at the Theatre “La Fenice” in Venice, production of Micheli.
In 2013 he directed sets, costumes and lighting for “Il Trovatore”, Pocket Opera production of Aslico in Como, he directed “Tosca” at the Opera of Brasov, in Romania, and the staging of “VIVA VERDI”, theater project of the Fondazione Pergolesi Spontini.
In 2014 he directed and staged the reduced form of “Hansel und Gretel” at the Theatre “La Nuova Fenice” of Osimo, for the Accademia d’Arte Lirica in Osimo, and shooting of “The Barber of Seville” at Romanian National Opera of Iasi.
In 2015 he directed “Carmen” at the Theatre “La Nuova Fenice” of Osimo, and participate as an assistant director of staging “Abay”, at the Opera of Astana, Kazakhistan, production of Giancarlo del Monaco. In Vienna, at the Theater Akzent, he directed, “Una Noche en Buenos Aires”, also sets and lighting, opera project on tango with the ‘staging of “Maria de Buenos Aires” by A. Piazzolla and “Mateo” M. Palmeri. He will sign direction, sets, costumes, of “Barber of Seville” at the Bucharest National Opera, and he directed “Re Enzo” for the Fondazione Pergolesi Spontini.
